This a rare opportunity to join a major UK based charity as the Head of Finance. Ideally we are looking for someone with a strong background in charity based organisations.The role reports directly to the CEO and directly assists the Operating board on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget management, cost benefit analysis and forecasting needs. You will: Oversee the management and coordination of all fiscal reporting activities. Train the Finance Unit and other staff on raising awareness and knowledge of financial management matters and help execute staff succession and growth plans. Work with the CEO on the strategic vision including fostering and cultivating stakeholder relationships, as well as assisting in the development and negotiation of contracts. Ensure adequate controls are installed and that substantiating documentation is approved and available such that all purchases may pass audits. Provide the CEO with an operating budget. Work with the board to ensure success through cost analysis support, and compliance with all contractual and programmatic requirements. Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets. Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors ensuring all audit issues are resolved, and all compliance issues are met, and the preparation of the annual financial statements. Attend Board and Subcommittee meetings. Monitor banking activities. Ensure adequate cash flow to meet business needs. Serve as one of the trustees and oversee administration and financial reporting of the Savings and Retirement Plan. Investigate cost-effective benefit plans and other fringe benefits which the organization may offer employees and potential employees with the goal of attracting and retaining qualified individuals. Oversee business insurance plans. Oversee the maintenance of the inventory of all fixed assets assuring all are in accordance with regulations. Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form. Personal Characteristics You will be a strong, robust and resilient individual with a solid grounding in all aspects of accounting and people management in the charity sector. Almost certainly you will have at least five to ten years' experience in a similar role, with a total experience of twenty years. To be effective the person will: Have a proven track record in a similar role, in a charitable organisation. Have an enthusiasm for IT and financial accounting systems. Have experience in dealing with external Auditors and Lawyers. Detailed knowledge in all fields of financial accounting. Detailed knowledge of tax laws. Strategic thinker and a keen manager. Possess excellent communication skills both verbal and written. Be an accomplished Manager. Have the ability to organise and plan his / her workload, dealing simultaneously with both tactical and strategic issues. Be a self-starter who is motivated to deliver a quality service, both internally and externally. Be totally reliable and able to meet commitments. Have the 'work hard' ethic and determination to achieve goals. Be trustworthy and have the independence to work unsupervised. Have excellent presentation skills. Be open, honest and apolitical.
